It’s modern Japan, and the country is enshrouded in a conspiracy that’s unknown to civilians and the local government. An underground engineering syndicate has secretly controlled the country with an iron fist for presumably a century, and it was only recently discovered by foreign government agencies two decades ago.
With a strict code to keep the ongoing war with the syndicate a secret from the world, most locals have become unwillingly compromised if they've made contact with the syndicate. Syndicate operations range from not only illegal human experimentations, but also criminal activities that threaten humanity as a whole. Despite the foreign government’s attempt to takedown the syndicate, a lot of their attempts have been thwarted. But that doesn’t stop mundane issues – there’s still plenty of crime, and authorities can say that their career’s at its prime. However, there are also those who’re able to live a mundane life without concern as they remain oblivious of the syndicate.
However, if you are a local, just remember this: keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
